Produced by Brower Family Wines and their expanded company Great American Wineries.  American Thread is one of their labels that is currently run by their son, Bobby Brower, Jr.  Bob Sr. and Patty Brower established their wine company in 1982 in Monterey County. The Browers have become known as pioneers in helping to establish Monterey County as a premier grape growing and wine making region.  For this Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc, the Browers source from some of the top growers in the county.

Bob was born and raised in Oceanside, Long Island, NY and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey.  After college, bob worked for Shell Oil Company.  In the 1970s, he started his own petroleum business.  Over a 10-year period, he built a small empire of retail service stations and also wholesaled petroleum to other independent gas stations.  He met Patty because she worked for the freight company that hauled Bob’s petroleum to his customers.

Their dream was to move to California and start their own winery.  A 1980 trip to California inspired this move which they subsequently did.  They found a piece of property just outside of Carmel on the outskirts of Monterey County.  From their visits to the great chateaux throughout France, French hospitality and wine inspired them to open their own winery.  They named their winery Chateau Julien after an actual chateau on the French/Swiss border.

They hired Bill Anderson as their winemaker who came with much experience from his training at UC Davis and working at other wineries in California.
