Joe’s Featured Wine: Seaglass Pinot Grigio, Central Coast, California 2018

$10.99 at Crush Wine & Spirits in Bryant, Arkansas (AR)

Aromas of lemongrass, grapefruit, and honeysuckle.  Pear, apple and a touch of minerality on the palate.  Tart acidity on finish.

This wine label takes its name from the pieces of glass that are polished over decades into colorful and unique gems by the natural ebb and flow of wind, sand, and sea water.  This wine reflects the nearby ocean air, sandy coastline, and fresh acidity of cool-climate fruit along the Central Coast.   Los Alamos Vineyard, the main grape source for this wine, is just 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean in Santa Barbara County, where the valleys usher in wind and fog across the vines each day.  This climate helps to retain the acidity in the grapes.  Los Alamos’s soil is almost entirely sand, which heats up quickly and initiates bud break earlier than neighboring sites.  This allows the grapes more time to develop concentrated flavors.
