100% Primitivo.  Six months in large French oak barrels (botti).

Blackberry and cherry flavors with hints of spice.  Smooth tannins.  Medium to full body.

The Primitivo grape is often said to be the same grape as California’s Zinfandel.  While both grapes may have the same DNA, style-wise they are different.  Primitivo is not has full and fruit forward explosive as Zinfandel.

The winery Antica Masseria del Sigillo was established in 1989 in the southern Italian town of Guagnano which is located about halfway between the towns of Lecce and Manduria.  In 2005, Claudio Quarta purchased the property and it became one of three wineries in his company Claudio Quarta Vignaiolo.

Claudio Quarta left his successful position as a New York executive in the biotechnology industry in 2005 to return to his home in Puglia to produce wine.  His daughter, Alessandra, assists him in managing the company.
